Eilis Soto Contributes to NYCHA Community Arts Effort

After attending the National School of Fine Arts in the Dominican Republic where she studied a variety of art-creation techniques, Eilis Soto continued to pursue her passion for art in the United States, where she is currently offering workshops for NYCHA residents. In 2003, Soto was inspired by the New York City Housing Authority’s commitment to community art after participating in its Resident Art Show. Not only did Soto leave the show with awards from the work she submitted, but she left with a newfound ambition to invest more in NYCHA’s cause. Since then, she has worked as an art consultant for the Housing Authority. She also conducts weekly art workshops for children and seniors at various NYCHA senior centers. In her workshops, Soto teaches a variety of art techniques (including drawing, painting, murals, banners, etc.) as well as the history that goes along with them.
