Free Arts NYC Exposes Kids to Art

As the economy continues to take its toll on U.S. educational facilities—in particular the arts programs in those facilities—the need for art is greater than ever. Especially underserved children and families do not get the exposure they ought to, which is precisely why programs like Free Arts NYC are so valuable.

Life can be hard on anyone, but even more so on those who don’t have a high socioeconomic status. Children from struggling families often lack confidence and miss out on opportunities that others are able to seize. Free Arts NYC provides these children with educational arts and mentoring programs “that help them to foster the self-confidence and resiliency needed to realize their fullest potential.”

As Superstorm Sandy demonstrated clearly, artists and those with an artistic spirit are among the most resilient people in any community. After the storm destroyed homes, studios, supplies, and much more, artists banded together to rebuild and heal.

Free Arts NYC was founded in 1997 by Liz Hopfan and how has an annual operating budget of over $2 million. The programs provided by Free Arts NYC allow children to grow and learn in a safe environment, one that emphasizes that there “are no mistakes in art!”

Free Arts NYC’s programs help boost and develop life skills and confidence in low income, homeless and neglected children. An incredible support network for those who need it most, Free Arts NYC helps prepare children for future challenges and successes in life.
